Gareth Bale not bothered by Paul Pogba surpassing his record fee

Gareth Bale says he is not bothered by losing the tag of the world’s most expensive player to Paul Pogba.

Bale’s three-year reign as the most expensive player in football history ended when Pogba joined Manchester United from Juventus for £89million last month.

That fee eclipsed the £85.3million Real Madrid paid Tottenham to sign Wales forward Bale in the summer of 2013.

But Bale said:

“I’m not fussed and I couldn’t care less.

“None of the players have pulled my leg on it.”

Bale was speaking at a UEFA Champions League gala dinner to launch the ‘Road to Cardiff’ with the 2017 final being held in his home city at what was known as the Millennium Stadium.

The 27-year-old would become only the sixth player to win the European Cup or Champions League in his home city should Madrid successfully defend the trophy they won for a record 11th time in May.

The previous five players to do so are Enrique Mateos (Real Madrid, 1957), Miguel Munoz (Real Madrid, 1957), Alex Stepney ( Manchester United, 1968), Angelo di Livio (Juventus, 1996) and Nicolas Anelka (Real Madrid, 2000).

“We know the final is in Cardiff and it would be amazing to get there,” said Bale, part of the Real side which beat Sevilla at the

Cardiff City Stadium to win the 2014 Super Cup.

“I haven’t been asked (about Cardiff) yet but the players have had experience of Wales and the weather from the Super Cup.

“I am sure if we get closer they will be asking.”

Bale has won the Champions League twice in his three seasons at the Bernabeu.

And a third triumph would take him past fellow Welshmen Joey Jones, Ian Rush and Ryan Giggs, who were part of two sides who became European champions.

Asked about claiming the record outright, Bale said: “That would be nice. I obviously have a better chance than them as I’m still playing.

“My aim is to win as many trophies as I can and as many Champions Leagues as I can. That will be the aim again this year.

“Everybody wants to beat Real Madrid, but we know we have a chance to make history again and we will be trying our best to do that.

“It is difficult winning the Champions League and not many people get to say they’ve won it.

“No matter what goes on in the transfer market you have to have a great season to win the Champions League.

“How much you spend doesn’t make a difference, you have to perform on those nights.”

Arsenal legend, Martin Keown thinks there is something to be happy about with his former club after watching the Europa League game against Vorskla.

The Gunners took the day in the 4-2 win, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finding the back of the net twice to add to the goals from Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck.

The Arsenal legend says the goal scored by the Gabon international makes him have a feel of the former striker, Thierry Henry in the game.

He suggested that Arsenal might have secured a replacement for the Frenchman.

The former Arsenal defender stated that the way Aubameyang drifted in and curls the ball with his right foot makes him think of Henry.

He described the player as having the belief and confidence to have scored the goal in that manner.

Keown says the new shape of the player is important for Arsenal to score more goals.

Aubameyang came with lots of promise when came in January by scoring some goals but that as not been fully evident this season as he is yet to deliver goals as expected.

So far, the former Borussia Dortmund striker has seen the back of the net just once in this current Premier League campaign.

The Reds fans have taken to their social media handle to show their anger at Liverpool for not starting James Milner against Southampton

Jurgen Klopp led Liverpool side hosted Southampton at Anfield in the English Premier League, having host French club, Paris Saint Germain during the week in the Uefa Champions league.

Liverpool squad facing Southampton was the same except for some few changes.

For the first time since joining Liverpool from Stoke City in the summer transfer window, Switzerland International, Xherdan Shaqiri made his first start for the Reds.

Shaqiri had played for Liverpool in the past but all of his appearances have been from the bench.

Despite this first-hand change, some Liverpool fans are not happy with the fact that Jurgen Klopp dropped James Milner from the first eleven squad as they hope he will make a second appearance in the squad.

James Milner gave Liverpool the second goal via a penalty kick in the game against Paris Saint Germain on Tuesday night.

As side from Shaqiri replacing James Milner, Brazil star, Roberto Firmino was back in the team and has taken his place back from England international Daniel Sturridge (who scored the first goal for Liverpool against PSG.

In the defense line, Joe Gomez rested while Joel Matip was been handed his first start for Liverpool.

Should the Referee had given Tottenham a late penalty kick against Liverpool?

Three things West Ham can do to defeat Chelsea FC

Chelsea

Pellegrini led West Ham side will host Chelsea FC in the 6th week of the English Premier League.

So far the Hammers have been able to get 3 points having defeated Everton in their last match.

West Ham hopes to defeat the Blues to get another 3 points and bring down Chelsea from the top of the EPL table.

But with the way and style, the Blues are playing under their new coach, Sarri Maurizio, it will be a difficult win for West Ham.

West Ham have some advantage over Chelsea owing to the fact that the Blues participated in the Uefa Europa League and are yet to return from Greece (as at the writing of this report) which means they have less than 48 hours to train and get their act together for their trip to the London Stadium.

For the Hammers to defeat Chelsea, they must do this three things,

1. Stop Eden Hazard

This is the most dangerous player in the Chelsea squad at the moment and he is expected to play against West Ham.

If the Pellegrini squad can make things difficult for Hazard then they are one step ahead.

2. Make use of their last form.

West Ham defeated Chelsea when they met last season under Antonio Conte, although the blues are under a different man, West Ham can still give their last form a trial.

3. The home advantage

West Ham will play host to Chelsea and the Hammers are always under less pressure whenever they play from home.

They can use this against Chelsea.
