Gareth Bale not bothered by Paul Pogba surpassing his record fee

Gareth Bale says he is not bothered by losing the tag of the world’s most expensive player to Paul Pogba.

Bale’s three-year reign as the most expensive player in football history ended when Pogba joined Manchester United from Juventus for £89million last month.

That fee eclipsed the £85.3million Real Madrid paid Tottenham to sign Wales forward Bale in the summer of 2013.

But Bale said:

“I’m not fussed and I couldn’t care less.

“None of the players have pulled my leg on it.”

Bale was speaking at a UEFA Champions League gala dinner to launch the ‘Road to Cardiff’ with the 2017 final being held in his home city at what was known as the Millennium Stadium.

The 27-year-old would become only the sixth player to win the European Cup or Champions League in his home city should Madrid successfully defend the trophy they won for a record 11th time in May.

The previous five players to do so are Enrique Mateos (Real Madrid, 1957), Miguel Munoz (Real Madrid, 1957), Alex Stepney ( Manchester United, 1968), Angelo di Livio (Juventus, 1996) and Nicolas Anelka (Real Madrid, 2000).

“We know the final is in Cardiff and it would be amazing to get there,” said Bale, part of the Real side which beat Sevilla at the

Cardiff City Stadium to win the 2014 Super Cup.

“I haven’t been asked (about Cardiff) yet but the players have had experience of Wales and the weather from the Super Cup.

“I am sure if we get closer they will be asking.”

Bale has won the Champions League twice in his three seasons at the Bernabeu.

And a third triumph would take him past fellow Welshmen Joey Jones, Ian Rush and Ryan Giggs, who were part of two sides who became European champions.

Asked about claiming the record outright, Bale said: “That would be nice. I obviously have a better chance than them as I’m still playing.

“My aim is to win as many trophies as I can and as many Champions Leagues as I can. That will be the aim again this year.

“Everybody wants to beat Real Madrid, but we know we have a chance to make history again and we will be trying our best to do that.

“It is difficult winning the Champions League and not many people get to say they’ve won it.

“No matter what goes on in the transfer market you have to have a great season to win the Champions League.

“How much you spend doesn’t make a difference, you have to perform on those nights.”

What £50-rated star discussed with Mourinho before sack

memphis depay

It has been revealed that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho had a discussion with Ligue 1 outfit Lyon winter Memphis Depay before his eventual switch to France.

Memphis Depay parted ways with the Old Trafford in 2017 with a fee of £16 million after failing to impress at the club and immediately returned to his best at the start of his life with the Ligue 1 side.

Therefore it was revealed that before his departure, he held talks with the Portuguese international and told him he was leaving. But most importantly, he told Mourinho that he was going to become one of the best players in the world when he leaves.

The prediction of the star player seems to be coming real knowing that he has risen from the level he used to be which has even attracted him to a number of big clubs including Liverpool.

So far this season, Memphis Depay has got 23 games under his belt and he has delivered goals in 8 occasions and handing a total of 11 assists across all competitions.

However, the former Man United star has got a contract with the French Ligue 1 side until 2021 as his release clause increasing to £50 million which means any suitor must meet that before having his signature.

West Ham United are looking forward to wrapping a deal for Manchester United star Andreas Pereira ahead of the winter transfer window which reopens in coming weeks.

Arsenal and Chelsea are also reported to be in the race for Andreas Pereira but are yet to show any seriousness in their bid which leaves West Ham with the clearance to have his signature.

The London side have lost former Arsenal player Jack Wilshere to injury and they seek to replace him the Red Devils player who is out of favour at the Old Trafford.

Andreas Pereira is also keen to leave the club as he is hungry for a regular playing time which will help his development and progress as a footballer.

The United youth player has only had three games under his belt this season across all competitions which is not enough to prove his quality.

He has got the ability to deliver good performance for the West Ham side and will definitely fancy a move to the London side as he might not be able to secure a starting role at the West London side Chelsea and also The North London side arsenal.

Meanwhile, West Ham United will have to pay about £10 million before they can secure Andreas Pereira’s signature.
