Atletico Madrid have told Diego Costa to make a decision on his future as he weighs up the possibility of not playing for six months so as to reunite with his former club.
The Spain international played for the Madrid club before moving to Chelsea in 2014 and he is expected to leave West London after Antonio Conte told him he is no longer needed at the club.
His first choice destination would be Atletico Madrid, but the club is currently under a transfer ban. So, if he should sign with them this summer, he won’t be able to play for them until January.
And the Spanish club’s president Cerezo Enrique has instructed the Brazilian-born striker to make the decision if he is willing to make a return to the club, and if not, they could move on to other targets.
He suggested that he would be open to joining Atletico Madrid and then immediately go out on loan to another club in Spain, or to Brazil.
Diego Costa, in the just concluded season at Chelsea, was, in 42 appearances, able to score 22 goals and provided 7 assists to help the west London club win the Premier League title with a Champions League ticket for next season.
