Arsenal

Alex Iwobi can be the missing piece in Arsenal’s midfield

Arsene Wenger is a staunch believer in his own ideology – this is why, regardless of how badly a player performs in his winning team, he rarely distorts the team with the introduction of new players unless someone is banjaxed with injury, and therein lies the reason bookies such as paddy power are smiling to the bank due to our inconsistencies this term.

Beginning this season, Spain international and Arsenal midfield maestro Santi Cazorla has not just being at the top of his game, but he is responsible for the fluidity with which Arsenal plays. However, the diminutive schemer is currently battling with injury and there is no telling how soon he’ll return, as he underwent a surgery, per report.

Arsenal had up to six consecutive wins in the Premier League but shockingly dropped two points against newly promoted side Middlesbrough and it was patent that the Gunners missed the presence of their playmaker Santi Cazorla.

Against Middlesbrough, Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin were paired together but there was no cohesion as both players are defensively-minded and have almost zero creativity prowess.

The question of who fills into the “big boots” of Santi Cazorla is not one without answers. We think Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi has the capacity to provide the much-needed creativity for Arsenal and help the team retain possession while they creatively offer threats in the attack of opponents.

Iwobi ascended the grades of Arsenal’s academy and surprisingly broke into the first team of Arsenal last term. Despite being 20 and relatively inexperienced, the Nigerian international has staked a claim on the left wing of Arsenal, sealing the position. The player Spoke to Skysports and revealed that the more he plays, the more comfortable he feels.

Arsenal’s attack is based on combination and movement, and the system has worked perfectly with Iwobi inter-changing positions with Ozil and Cazorla. Iwobi has been dubbed as the secondary playmaker for Arsenal as he acts as a connector and an instigator for Arsenal’s attacking style.

Iwobi played in the number 10 role against Reading in the EFL Cup and he held his own with several flashes of brilliance. In the absence of Cazorla, Arsenal can utilize the youngster and the one to play closest to Coquelin, while Giroud should be introduced as the point man and Sanchez moved to the left wing position.
