EPL: Klopp Delighted With Chamberlain Return After One Year

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could not contain his joy after midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returned to the pitch during the Premier League game against basement club Huddersfield Town.

England international Oxlade-Chamberlain returned to the Liverpool first team after 367 days due to a serious knee injury.

He was a 73rd minute substitute for Georginio Wijnaldum as Liverpool ran riot against an hapless Huddersfield Town side.

Liverpool thrashed the Terriers 5-0 at home to ensure that they will finish as the bottom team at the end of this Premier League season.

In his post-match press conference, Klopp was delighted with the return to the pitch of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as he described it as a special moment.

  • How Alex Iwobi would have been a “gunner”

The former Arsenal player was enjoying a fantastic season in his debut campaign for the Reds since his transfer from the Gunners at the start of last season until injury struck in April 2018.

Oxlade-Chamberlain injured his anterior cruciate ligament during the first leg of the Reds’ Champions League semifinal tie with Italian Serie A club AS Roma on April 24, 2018.

He made his return to the Liverpool team against Huddersfield Town exactly one year and two days later.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had made two substitute appearances for the Liverpool U23s before his return to first team action.

Naby Keita, Sadio Mane (2) and Mohamed Salah (2) all scored as the Reds secured Premier League summit with a big win over the Terriers.
