Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, is now ready for a coaching role after his disappointing and early retirement from active football.
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers goalie was just inline to make it to the World Cup that was recently concluded in Russia before he was diagnosed with acute leukaemia in July 2017.
That led to the end of his football career as he was advised by the medical team attending to his case to stay away from active football.
Ikeme’s exit from the scene was a big blow to Nigerian fans having surfaced as a direct replacement for Vincent Enyeama who also had an unceremonious exit from the country’s national team.
The stopper expressed regret at missing the world’s biggest tournament which according to him, was a dream he had wished became a reality.
He said he wished to have also played the international friendlies in the build-up of the World Cup especially the one against the England national team.
The stopper said he watched all the World Cup games and was sad to watch Argentina throw Nigeria out of the tournament.
However, Ikeme says he is not all done with football and Nigeria as he wants to begin a career as a manager.
He revealed that he has already spoken with the Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr of his desire to learn and understudy him as one of his assistants.
Ikeme who is already recovering says he hopes to be involved in an upcoming fixture against Libya in October.
