Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus are among the seven Premier League young talents that were shortlisted for this year’s Golden Boy award.
Now in its 14th year, the highly-rated award was created by Italian publication Tuttosport, and the seven English top flight youngsters are among a total of 25 stars in contention for it this year.
The Golden Boy award recognises the most impressive footballers who are under the age of 21 based on the last calendar year. Around 30 journalists will be voting for the winner of the prestigious gone, with representatives from eminent publications including L’Equipe, Bild, Marca and The Times among them.
Apart from Rashford and Gabriel, two Liverpool youngsters made the list – Dominic Solanke and Joe Gomez. The remaining premier league players who were nominated are Dominic Calvin-Lewin (Everton), Tottenham Hotspur’s full-back Kyle Walker-Peters and Reece Oxford (West Ham, but is currently on loan with Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach)
One of the young talents from another league that was also shortlisted is former Monaco youngster Kylian Mbappe.
The young French striker impressed greatly at Monaco last season and he played a big role in their ability to win the French Ligue I title ahead of PSG. His superb performances led to a summer switch to PSG, and he is the most likely player to win the award.
