20 goals in 30 matches, Arsenal finally found their next Thierry Henry

Over the years, Arsenal have produced some top-class goal-poachers who can score goals from any position on the pitch.

Right from the days of Cliff Bastin — who scored 178 goals in his Arsenal career which ended in 1939, to the days of Ivan Wright who was known as one of the deadliest strikers of his time.

Wright became the Gunners most influential striker in 2005 as he became the Gunners all-time leading goalscorer with 185 goals.

After Wright’s wonderful spell at the Emirates stadium, the Gunners witnessed the emergence of another wonderful striker, this time, it was Thierry Henry.

The Frenchman didn’t need much of introduction because almost every Premier League clubs suffered from his great goalscoring prowess and his perfect converting ratio.

He was regarded as the greatest striker the team has ever had, this is as a result of the wonderful number of goals he scored while playing for the Emirates stadium. He scored 228 goals in all competitions, throughout his stay with the North London club.

Many strikers have come and gone after the Frenchman’s departure but none have been able to reach the feat achieved by the current Monaco manager.

However, there’s one player who might beat Henry’s record in the nearest future. He is no other person but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabonese star is a household name in Europe. He has a very high goalscoring prowess, just like Thierry Henry, who is now a head coach at Monaco.

Why Aubameyang is the next Thierry Henry

During his time at Borussia Dortmund, Aubameyang was prolific in front of goal. He scored 120 goals in just 187 matches he played for the Westfalenstadion outfits.

He was initially brought by the Bundesliga side as Robert Lewandowski’s replacement but the former Saint-Etienne’s player went on to better the record that was created by the Poland international.

Lewy, as he’s fondly called, scored 103 goals in 187 games, compared to Aubameyang’s 120.

Since his move to the Emirates stadium for a record fee of £55m, the Gabonese hasn’t looked back in his mission to become a great player for the team.

Last season, he scored 10 goals in 14 matches to become the first summer signing to score a double-digit number of goals in less than 20 games for the team.

He has scored 10 goals this season after just 16 matches. He is definitely going to score more goals before the end of the campaign as long as he remains in his fine form throughout the season.

As much as it appears too early to liken Aubameyang to the Gunners legend, it isn’t out of place to say that he is surely on track to reaching the milestone and record set by Thierry Henry.
