Thomas Muller

According to Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus, Thomas Muller no longer has a clear role at Bayern Munich and he could struggle to get back into the team under new boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti took over the baton from Pep Guardiola this season but hasn’t been able to utilise the qualities of the strong striker. The German forward too has not been able to show his stuff.

Muller is regarded as one of the best strikers in the world due to his classic performance in both club and country. This has linked him with a £60m move to Old Trafford – a move yet to materialised.

Nevertheless, considering how Ancelotti is running his things presently at the Bundesliga club, it seem a move would become possible for Muller as Matthaus even expressed his doubts over his future with the German club.

‘It will be really tough for Muller to fight himself back into the starting XI in the second half of the season,’  Matthaus expressed in his column for Bild.

‘There is not really a position in Ancelotti’s formation that suits him.

‘Arjen Robben is a better option on the right wing and Bayern do not really play with a support striker.

‘They are playing an attacking midfielder behind Robert Lewandowski instead and I think Thiago Alcantara is the right man for that role. He is much more flexible than Muller.’

Will Muller come to United now?
