Barcelona president Jose Maria Bartomeu didn’t give much away when he was asked about the future of Ernesto Valverde after the shocking defeat to Premier League giants.
In a chat with Movistar+, Bartomeu revealed that it’s not yet time to reflect on the disappointing exit at the hands of the Reds as he said that the Spanish champions still have to face Valencia in the final of the Spanish Copa Del Rey.
Barcelona will attempt to defend their Copa Del Rey title when they face Valencia in the final on May 25.
It could be the last game for Ernesto Valverde who will certainly come under pressure after a second Champions League collapse in two seasons after the AS Roma debacle from the last campaign.
Barcelona had taken a 4-1 lead from their quarterfinal first leg clash with Italian giants AS Roma before they went on to lose the second leg 3-0 at the home of their Italian opponents to exit last season’s Champions League via the away goals rule.
They squandered another three-goal advantage against Liverpool this season after their 3-0 lead from the first leg of their Champions League semifinal tie with the Reds was wiped out.
Liverpool won 4-0 at home in the second leg to seal a 4-3 aggregate win over Barcelona and a spot in the 2019 Champions League final.
