Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has backed teammate Virgil Van Dijk for the PFA Player of the Year Award as he described him as the best defender in world football.
In his recent interview monitored by Goal, Andy Robertson praised the quality of Dutch international Van Dijk adding that the former Celtic and Southampton star is a key player for Liverpool in their quest to win the Premier League title for the first time in their history.
Virgil Van Dijk has been a mainstay of the Liverpool team since his transfer last year.
Liverpool To Battle Four Clubs For €70m Defender
He joined Liverpool from fellow Premier League club Southampton in a £75m deal at the start of last year.
Van Dijk became the most expensive defender in world football as a result and he has lived up to his price tag with his performances at the club.
His quality came to the fore once again on Wednesday when he netted two goals to lead the Reds to a 5-0 win over Watford in the Premier League.
With Liverpool cruising at 3-0, Van Dijk added two goals in the 79th minute and the 82nd minute to make it a thumping win for his side thus helping the Reds maintain their one-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
