Why Lacazette fume at his substitution against Burnley

If you watched the game between Arsenal and Burnley at the Emirates stadium, you will see one of the craziest ways players react to being subbed out of a game.

The Gunners were 2-1 ahead of the Clarets in the game when Unai Emery decided to replace France international striker Alexander Lacazette in favor of Alex Iwobi and the manager’s decision didn’t go down well with the striker.

The former Lyon striker was furious with Emery as soon as he saw his name on the fourth official’s substitution board.

FOUR REASONS BEHIND LACAZETTE’S REACTION

High urge to end goal drought

Lacazette has failed to find the back of the net in 6 matches prior to yesterday’s game and he was hoping to break his dry spell in front of goal.

All his efforts to get into the scorer’s sheet were fruitless as he didn’t get the cutting edge he was looking for.

Seeing that his time was up, the player reacted angrily to the fact that he was unable to end his unimpressive run in front of goals.

Short Confidence Level

His confidence level was too low and that played a role in his reaction to his substitution on Sunday.

Knowing well that a goal will help him regain part of his confidence back, the player wanted to spend more time on the pitch to score against Burnley.

His confidence level hasn’t helped him improve his game and that could be his main reason for reacting in such an unprofessional manner.

He believed he deserves full-time action

The Frenchman didn’t score against the Clarets in 74 minutes but his performance was one that deserve to remain on the pitch for the rest of the game.

His defensive trait helped the team maintain their lead throughout the time he spent on the field.

He was tagged the perfect player to partner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before the game and he didn’t disappoint.

Seeing his name on the fourth official’s board made him feel less appreciated by Emery, hence, he reacted furiously.

He thought he’s done enough to convince the former PSG boss he deserve to be given a 90-minute action.

Nonetheless, Lacazette shouldn’t have reacted in such manner. The Frenchman shouldn’t be too self-centered and must learn to trust his manager on any decision he makes.

Emery was, however, justified as Alex Iwobi — who came on for the Frenchman — put the game far from Burnley’s reach when he scored the Gunners third and final goal of the night.
