Liverpool star player Virgil van Dijk had a good time yesterday at the St Mary’s Stadium, and the Dutchman failed to give much attention to the hostile chants from fans of his former club.
Van Dijk joined Liverpool last month and he became the most expensive defender in football history after the Anfield club paid £75M for his signature.
He faced his former side for the first time yesterday when Jurgen Klopp led him and his new teammates to Southampton to play at St Mary’s.
Before the game, his new manager already warned him to be ready for any sort of welcome he will receive from his former club – and the Dutchman obviously took that at heart.
Roberto Firmino scored the first goal in the game before Mohamed Salah made it two before the break.
Obviously, Southampton fans were not happy losing their star man – plus losing the game too.
But the defender felt Southampton fans took things too far, and that the unpleasant reception he received was unwarranted.
He also said he enjoyed the game as he simply chose to ‘just focused’ on the business at hand.
The player also added that he isn’t too excited seeing his former side strugglingint the relegation zone because he still ‘care for the club’.
