With talks about Victor Lindelof’s move to Old Trafford scattered all over the media in December, it seems the player would eventually become a United player this January.
The Portuguese press keeps reporting that the highly-rated defender would cost €45 million, and if the deal should successfully move through, he would become the most expensive player Benfica will ever sell.
In the twist of event, BBC reported last week that United coach Jose Mourinho has changed his mind and is no longer interested in signing Lindelof. It was believed the Portuguese tactician has increased his faith in the partnership of Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones in the centre of defence.
However, Benfica remained adamant that the deal is still thriving as Portuguese news outlet A Bola reveal Benfica are convinced there will be an official confirmation of United’s signing this coming week.
The transfer window is open once more, and it won’t come as a surprise if Manchester United eventually make a big news- since Lindelof himself didn’t feature in Benfica’s clash against Pacos De Ferrerira last Thursday.
A Bola insists that if Manchester United have given up on the race for Lindelof, nothing of such has been communicated to Benfica.
Additionally, as it has been officially confirmed that Eric Bailly has officially left Old Trafford to represent Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations, no one knows if Lindelof would be needed as a back up for the squad.
