Under fire Paul Pogba told to step up his game in Man Utd colours amid Barca links
Paul Pogba may have been instrumental in the Le Bleus 2018 world cup triumph in Russia earlier this summer, a growing number of voices have asked the Manchester United team captain to step up and be decisive in the Red Devils shirt.
Off the heels of the 3-2 defeat in the hands of Bright & Hove Albion, Man Utd Legend Paul Scholes who had earlier been in favour of the Frenchman donning the captain’s armband this season criticized the team for being bereft of leaders.
Scholes told Optus sport:
‘There’s a lack of leaders in the team, that’s why we thought Paul Pogba might be the ideal candidate to be that leader but he wasn’t there. He had another really poor game. He’s so inconsistent.’ This is coming after reports of a row between Mourinho and Pogba who suggested he might be dissatisfied with life at Old Trafford.
Mourinho has since gone on to quash the rumours of the rift by saying ‘he couldn’t be happier with Pogba.’ after Man Utd’s opening day 2-1 win against Leicester City at Old Trafford.
Gordon Strachan has also criticized the Red Devils captain, saying, Paul Pogba needs to focus more on being a great player at Manchester United and stop spending time being an ‘Instagram Personality’. Strachan believes that the £89 million midfielder has done little for the club to justify his huge transfer fee hence the need to up his game.
The embattled midfielder’s agent Mino Raiola has since launched an attack on Scholes in an apparent bid to defend his underperforming client. Reports do however suggest that Barcelona might be ready to capitalise on the relationship strain to lure Pogba to camp Nou come January.
