Following the performance of new Arsenal recruit, Bernd Leno in the Thursday Europa League win against Vorskla, Unai Emery gave a hint on who will be the new first-choice goalkeeper for his side.
The North London club brought Leno from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer to add to the competition at the pole.
The young keeper was tipped to beat competition from Petr Cech but that did not happen as he was left to the bench in all the 5 Premier League games played so far.
He was however handed an opportunity to see his competitive debut for the Gunners in the Europa game with advice from the Spanish manager to him to prove he is ready to stay as the first choice.
Just like Cech, the goalkeeper had conceded two goals in his first game of the season but he is saved by the fact that Emery was able to identify how the goals were conceded and obviously, it was not a fault of Leno.
In his reaction, the former PSG manager praised the German international for his performance, not minding the two goals.
Emery, therefore, hinted that he could be asked to take the role in the Premier League game at the weekend by saying that “For him, it takes minutes for the game and confidence for continuing also because he will be continuing to play matches in the next week.”
The Arsenal boss has earlier made it clear that selection for matches will be purely based on the performance of the player.
