French Ligue 1 outfit Rennes could be hit with UEFA’s hammer if found guilty as it is reported that the Europe League organizers have opened proceedings against them for the trouble that ensued at the game on Tuesday night against North London outfit Arsenal.
The Gunners team were defeated 3-1 away from home after their host came from behind to have the day and the hand hope for a quarterfinals qualification.
UEFA said it has charges against the home team for field invasion by supporters which contravenes Art 12(2) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR).
Also, the club is charged for the setting off of fireworks by their fans and stairways blockage which contravenes Art 16 (2) DR and Art 38 of the UEFA Safety and Security Regulations respectively.
According to UEFA, the case would be dealt with by the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Board on 28 March.
However, Arsenal were not left alone in this offence as they were handed a £13,000 fine last week after a fan invaded the pitch and a late kick-off in their home game against Qarabag.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s focus will be on turning the table around by recording a convincing win against Rennes in the second leg on Thursday so they can as well, qualify to the next round of the competition.
