English Premier League (EPL) side Tottenham Hotspur have qualified for the knockout stage of the UEFA Europa League after they secured a 3-1 comeback win against Russian champions CSKA Moscow in what was their final game in UEFA Champions League (UCL) Group E.
Nigerian-born England international Dele Alli was the hero as he netted a brace either side of star striker Harry Kane’s close range finish to overturn CSKA Moscow midfielder Alan Dzagoev’s match opener.
Ahead of the match, the North London side knew qualification for the last of 16 in the UCL was out of reach as they are unable to catch the top two namely French side AS Monaco and German side Bayer Leverkusen even with a game to spare and therefore needed just a point to be assured of third place in the group for UEL spot.
After the match, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino expresses his delight at the much needed result. He said: “I’m happy. The performance was good because it showed we can win here. That was important for us. It can change the bad feeling at Wembley.”
“Against Chelsea, Swansea and tonight we have played better. We’re starting to show our real quality again.” he further added.
