Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld will make his long-awaited return from injury in his side’s Matchday 6 clash with Russian champions CSKA Moscow at the Wembley Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Alderweireld, who plays for the Belgian national team, got injured in Tottenham’s 1-1 away draw against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns in October and has been out of action for the last seven-and-a-half weeks with the knee injury he sustained during the previously mentioned game.
His return is certainly a welcome addition for Mauricio Pochettino and his Tottenham team having struggled without the 27-year old former Southampton and Atletico Madrid star culminating in the North London side’s exit from the UEFA Champions League (UCL) in addition to loosing their unbeaten run in the English Premier League (EPL) courtesy a 2-1 defeat to league leaders Chelsea.
Despite the disappointments stated above, Tottenham can still stay in Europe with a draw against CSKA Moscow enough to seal a UEFA Europa League (UEL) spot as the third-placed team in their Group E while they are seven points off top spot with 27 points from 14 games in the EPL and just three points off the champions league places with Manchester City occupying the 4th spot with 30 points.
