Draw with Tottenham a missed opportunity for Liverpool- Klopp

Jurgen Klopp could not hide his frustration as his Liverpool side left White Hart Lane with just a point after an impressive performance against Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool had the better of the game against Spurs on Saturday afternoon but failed to take their chances in front of goal in order to clinch three points.

The visitors took lead the lead courtesy of James Milner’s converted penalty in the 43rd minute. However, Liverpool were unable withstand a heavy spell of pressure from Tottenham in the second half and Danny Rose equalised on 72 minutes.

“I still feel a little bit disappointed, [even though] we took a point against Tottenham,” Klopp said at his news conference after the game. “When we played like this then I think we could have won the game, but it is like it is.

“We have to accept all the things that happened around [he game]. There were not plenty more chances for a home game for a football-playing team, a good side like Tottenham. This says a lot about our defending.

“But on the other hand, we had chances. This game showed again what we can do, how we can play.

“It was not only about pressing and things like this, although we did it really well. We were really flexible in offensive defending and then played football. We had wonderful moments with passing and all that stuff, the direction in our game.

“Yes, I wish we would have won it but now we have to accept the point and that’s no problem because it’s Tottenham.

“We showed again we can be really good and that’s what we have to show in each game. Then everything will be good.”

At 1-0, Klopp’s side had a goal disallowed in the 56th minute. Georginio Wijnaldum played through Adam Lallana, who squared for Sadio Mane to tap in. However, the referee’s assistant adjudged Lallana to be offside.

When a reporter pointed out to Klopp that replays showed the goal could have stood, he said: “What can I say? It was a wonderful goal, brilliant play. It’s not too cool, but it happened.”

Liverpool now enter the international break with four points, having won at Arsenal and been beaten by Burnley prior to the Tottenham game.

Klopp admits his side’s position is far from desirable, but is remaining optimistic at this stage of the campaign.

“It is an early moment in the season and we have had not the most easiest start so for this it’s OK,” he added. “Sitting here with four points after three games is not what I wanted but this is our base and we will build on this base.”
