During the summer transfer window, Premier League clubs bought some players they believed will help them achieve their mission for this campaign.
Manchester United signed some young and experienced players including Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant.
Liverpool were the busiest of them all as Jurgen Klopp brought four new players to the Anfield stadium. Alisson Becker, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Fabinho all linked up with the Anfield outfits prior to the start of the campaign.
As for Chelsea, only three players were added to the existing stars. Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Jorginho were the new additions to the Blues.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola narrowly missed out on Jorginho’s signature, hence, he signed just Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City.
Arsenal added three new players to their team as they provided an upgraded team for their new manager Unai Emery.
Lucas Torreira, Bernd Leno and Matteo Guendozi were all brought to the team to shake up the defence, likewise, the midfield positions.
Exceptional signings
16 matches into the season, some of the listed players have fared well with their respective clubs, while, some are still getting used to how things are being done in the League.
Riyad Mahrez, Diogo Dalot are presently in fine form with the Citizens and Red Devils respectively.
Jorginho is equally doing fine with the Blues as his presence at the middle of the pitch is often felt by the Stamford Bridge outfits.
Fred, Fabinho, Keita, and Guendozi are yet to really justify their respective price tags so far this season.
The most standout Signing of the season
Out of these new players, Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira is the only player who has rightfully justified his price tag.
The Uruguayan international has brought calm and class to Emery’s midfield setup. His defensive trait is presently unrivalled by any midfielder as he has been consistent in his performance.
Torreira’s goal vs Huddersfield — a confirmation of his qualities
The Gunners returned back to winning ways earlier today after their mid-week draw against Manchester United.
The North London club couldn’t break the deadlock until the 83rd minute when the former Sampdoria’s man scored a brilliant bicycle-kick off an in-swinging cross from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has failed to score in his second consecutive matches.
The techniques with which he struck the ball was too awesome and perfect that it could only be done by world-class strikers.
Apart from his newfound goalscoring prowess, the 22-year-old’s energy and tactical awareness are other parts of his game that haven’t been seen in other summer signings, not even Jorginho or Mahrez.
The player’s understanding of being in the right place at the right time placed him far above every defensive midfielder in the League, including highly-rated N’Golo Kante.
With his wonder goal against Huddersfield in tonight’s game, the Uruguayan now has hand in three Premier League goals in his last three appearances for the team.
That’s just the beginning of things to expect from the £26m-rated midfielder as the season continues to get tougher and more stressful than other Leagues in the world.
I must say that the Gunners have gotten a rare gem they must protect at all cost.
