Harry Redknapp thinks Arsenal should make a transfer bid to sign Manchester United current all-time-goalscorer Wayne Rooney come summer

Former Tottenham Hotspur coach Harry Redknapp has urged Arsenal to put up a transfer bid to sign United captain Wayne Rooney from Manchester United this summer.

Rooney’s future at Old Trafford under new manager Jose Mourinho has been a source of speculation in recent months.

The England international has been only granted just eight starts in the Premier League this current term. This is sparking suggestions that he could be set to leave the Old Trafford club in search of regular first-team football.

Rooney has most recently been linked with a big-money move to the Chinese Super League as the Asian country’s transfer window does not close until next week.

However, Redknapp is of the opinion that Rooney could be the missing piece in the jigsaw for Arsene Wenger there at Arsenal.

Redknapp writing in his column for The London Evening Standard said if Wayne Rooney is available this summer, Arsenal should come in for him.

“Arsenal looked at him a few years ago so we know Arsene is a fan. He would improve that team overnight because they have an issue with attitude and he is a winner.

“I watched Arsenal the other night at Sutton and I know it was a difficult pitch but some of their younger players were getting caught in possession, losing it cheaply and were putting their team in danger.

“There was nobody there shouting: “Oi, f***ing liven up!” They get away with it all the time. Nobody sticks the boot into them, whether that is from the dugout or other players on the pitch. Rooney would be someone out there on his team-mates’ case, digging them out if they are not at it. That would be invaluable for Arsenal.”

Currently, the Gunners are gearing up for their Premier League game with Liverpool at Anfield next month.
