Pat Nevin feels David Luiz still has a future at Stamford Bridge despite being ‘frozen out’ under manager Antonio Conte in the recently concluded Premier League season.
Luiz frozen out of squad
The Blues re-signed the Brazil international defender in a £32million deal from French side Paris Saint-Germain back in the 2016 summer window following Antonio Conte’s appointment.
David Luiz was a key member of Chelsea’s title-winning season after he forged a great partnership with Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta and England international Gary Cahill.
However, the Chelsea boss decided to go with Denmark international Andreas Christensen ahead of the South American throughout most of the 2017/18 campaign, while summer recruit Antonio Rudiger provided more competition for a starting place.
Injury setback
He has also struggled with injuries to cast major doubt around the 31-year-old’s future at Stamford Bridge ahead of the 2018 summer window.
Antonio Conte’s Chelsea future remains unresolved at the West London club amid speculations the Italian exiting in the summer following a rather poor season.
Former Blues wide man Nevin is adamant that the former PSG man still has a future at the club.
Chelsea were 1-0 winners against rivals Manchester United in the Emirates FA Cup final last weekend at Wembley Stadium after Eden Hazard’s first-half spot-kick goal.
