Everton FC midfielder of Nigerian descent Ross Barkley has cleared the air as regards his failed transfer to Chelsea just a few hours to the close of the summer transfer window.
Premier League Champions Chelsea had agreed a £35 million transfer fee with Merseyside giant Everton for the England international midfielder, only for the Englishman to pull the plug on the move.
The Everton star took to twitter on Saturday afternoon to explain why he did so: ”Contrary to a number of reports in the press (media), I (Barkley) did not undertake a medical (examination) with any (football) club at any point.”
He also said he simply decided that due to the injury he is currently nursing, it would be best for him to decide on his future and assess all options in January when he is fully fit.
The midfield maestro is currently nursing a hamstring injury that might keep him out of football actions for about three months.
The 23-year-old comes off his Everton contract in the summer of 2018, and can begin discussions with interested teams in four months time.
The Everton academy graduate has featured in 150 matches for Everton in the English Premier League, netting 21 goals since his debut back in 2011.
