Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has been subjected to a lot of verbal abuse from the Blues fans in recent weeks but the Italian tactician has been able to meet the club’s target for this season.
Sarri and Chelsea booked their place in the Champions League next season with one game to play thereby meeting the least target set this season.
Chelsea had missed out on Champions League football under former manager Antonio Conte in the last campaign but his compatriot has been able to guide the club back to Europe’s premier club competition.
At one point, it looked like Chelsea won’t qualify for Champions League football but a fine end to the season meant that the Blues will return to the big stage next season and could even finish the season with a trophy in the Europa League final where they will face London rivals Arsenal in the final in Baku, Azerbaijan on May 29.
Chelsea consolidated their Champions League football qualification on the final day of the season with a third-placed finish made possible by the goalless draw at the home of Leicester City.
The Blues finished third on the Premier League table with 72 points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, in fourth place with 71 points, who could only play a 2-2 draw at home to Everton.
Chelsea are the third best team this season behind the title contenders Manchester City and Liverpool.
