Liverpool could only share points with Sevilla last night during their Champions League group opener, and former Man United player Roy Keane thinks the Reds won’t win a trophy this season due to their poor defending.
The Merseyside club were held to a 2-2 draw by the Spanish visitors at Anfield on Wednesday evening.
Sevilla’s Wissam Ben Yedder scored the opening goal just after five minutes, following an error from Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren.
However, both Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah gave the hosts the lead, and the fans thought three points was sure. Unfortunately, a strike from Joaquin Correa in the 72nd minute brought the scoreline to 2-2.
And former Man United midfielder Keane, speaking to ITV, says other top European clubs will not be scared of Jurgen Klopp’s side should in case they make it out of their group.
While the club’s German boss has refused to highlight his side’s defensive mistakes against the La Liga club, Keane thinks their poor defensive system won’t make the Merseyside club win any trophy this season.
Roy, however, hailed the reds as being impressive up front in the attack, and they did quite well in terms of creating chances and powerful pace. But according to him:
“The easiest part of football is to be swift in the defence and [they] don’t seem to be able to do it.”
