According to Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito, Arsenal actually made a bid for Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and tried to lure him to the Emirates. Morabito who can be described as an intermediary between clubs during transfer talks and deals has revealed that Arsenal made an offer to Dortmund for the Gabonese International.
Manager of Arsenal, Arsene Wenger during the summer spent some cash to bring in players to boost his squad in the hope of mounting a challenge for the title. It was believed that a major priority for Wenger at that time was to get a top striker that will boost the attack and provide goals that win help the team win titles.
During the summer Arsenal had been linked to strikers Gonzalo Higuain and Mauro Icardi but Morabito has revealed that Arsenal had serious intentions for another star striker.
The Daily Star reports that speaking to Italian station Radio CRC, the agent claimed that Arsenal made a substantial offer for the Gabonese striker but that Dortmund were not interested in making a deal.
He said “Sometime ago, I called Zork, Dortmund’s director of football, to talk about Aubameyang [on behalf of Napoli], but the ‘no’ was absolutely categorical,” he said. I know that this summer, Arsenal offered €90m (£80m) for Aubameyang, but Borussia didn’t want to hear anything about it.”
Arsenal moved on and eventually went on to sign Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna. Since arriving at the Emirates the striker has scored two goals and provided two assists but now has an ankle injury and will be out of action till mid-December.
