Reports revealed that Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan was close to signing for Arsenal.
Mkhitaryan signed for Manchester United in the summer from German club Borussia Dortmund, with the midfielder seen at the time as one of the best talents in Europe. Now reports have come out to reveal how Manchester United hijacked and snatched Mkhitaryan from Arsenal.
Before joining Manchester United, the talented midfielder was linked to making a move to Anfeild and joining Liverpool but United were eventually able to get him in July. It was however Arsenal who were favorites and were in pole position to get the signature of the 27-year-old player according to “daily mail“.
Everything seemed set for Mkhitaryan to seal a move to Arsenal but United mad a late show and sealed the deal by offering more money to the tune of 7 million pounds.
Since his move to Old Trafford, Mkhitaryan has not had it easy and has struggled to keep up with the pace of the premiership which has left a lot of fans very disappointed. Though he has been injured in his short time at United, when given the chance he has not shown the spark that made him one of the most wanted players by top clubs in Europe.
At Dortmund, Mkhitaryan rose to become one of the best players in Europe. Just last season in Germany, he was voted player of the year and this came courtesy of his blistering form for his club that saw him notch up 23 goals as well as 21 assists in 51 matches.
