Record Makers: Liverpool Set New Champions League Record Against Barcelona

Liverpool have set a new Champions League record after they were able to overturn their first leg deficit against Spanish champions Barcelona to secure a place in the final of the competition next month.

The Reds came from a 3-0 deficit from the first leg against the Spaniards to seal a Champions League final spot with a 4-0 victory at Anfield in their second leg meeting on Wednesday night.

Liverpool are the first team to overturn a three-goal deficit from the first leg in the semifinals of the Champions League.

Barcelona had no answers to the menacing Liverpool attack which scored three second half goals against the Gerard Pique-led rearguard.

Liverpool had earlier scored the first goal of the game in the 7th minute from Divock Origi after a mistake from the reliable Jordi Alba.

The Reds added two goals in two minutes through substitute Georginio Wijnaldum who had come on for the injured Andy Robertson at the halftime interval.

The two Wijnaldum goals leveled the tie at 3-3 before the aforementioned Origi delivered the suckerpunch with eleven minutes to go.

The Belgian international had replaced star player Mohamed Salah in the Liverpool starting XI after the Egyptian player suffered a head injury in the last league game against Newcastle United.

Origi scored the fourth goal off an assist from Trent Alexander-Arnold to take Liverpool to the Champions League final in Madrid in June.
