Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho surprisingly benched Paul Pogba yesterday at Old Trafford.
Pogba was only introduced into the game in the final 25 minutes after he was replaced by 19-year-old Scott McTominay in the starting XI against Huddersfield.
It was one of four changes made by Mourinho after losing to Spurs on Wednesday at Wembley.
While many believe the Manchester United manager was only punishing the Frenchman for his unimpressive performance against Tottenham, the Portuguese tactician insisted he wasn’t punishing anyone, and that he only chose to ‘changed a few players’.
However, Manchester United legend Gary Neville is having some feelings that there is more to Jose’s decision for benching Paul.
The former Man United player believes the Portuguese boss is simply passing a message to the Frenchman that he needs to consistently perform in every game.
Gary also believes Mourinho’s decision on Saturday would make other players realise no one is immune from being dropped.
Goals from Romelu Lukaku and latest signing Alexis Sanchez were enough to earn Manchester United all three points against Huddersfield.
Sanchez was able to score his first goal in a Manchester United shirt on Saturday, and since Manchester City shared points with Burnley, his new side have closed the gap between them and Pep Guardiola’s side to 13 points.
