Arsenal Legend Recommends Liverpool Defender For Man United

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has revealed that he would sign Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk to solve the defensive problems at Manchester United.

Paul Merson is a footballer turned pundit and he extolled the quality of the Dutch international centre-back while he was on Sky Sports.

According to him, Virgil Van Dijk is the best defender in the world football and he would improve the Manchester United defence in a great deal.

Former Celtic centre-back Van Dijk holds the record for being the most expensive defender in the history of world football after the Reds splashed a whooping sum of £75m to secure his transfer from fellow Premier League side Southampton in the penultimate transfer window in January.

His significant transfer outlay has been money well spent for the Merseysiders and he has improved the Reds defence in a great deal.

Van Dijk was part of the Liverpool team that made it all the way to the Champions League final before they were beaten 3-1 by eventual champions Real Madrid.

He has helped turn Liverpool from top four contenders to Premier League title rivals.

With Virgil Van Dijk in their ranks, Liverpool have the best defensive record in the Premier League this season.
