Merseyside giant Liverpool will this week start the task of reintegrating Brazil international Philippe Coutinho into their team as the fallout from FC Barcelona’s failed approach to sign the playmaker threatens to destabilise his place at the club.
The Brazilian on Saturday was officially included in Reds 25-man Premier League squad list for the remainder of the League season and is expected to return after Brazil’s FIFA World Cup qualifier in neighbours Colombia.
Although the talented midfielder has not declared openly after failing to seal his favoured transfer, PSG star Neymar said his Coutinho was feeling “disappointed and sad”.
The La Liga side were equally willing to make a statement of intent after Neymar Jr’s departure, and see Coutinho an adequate replacement.
Although 25-year-old was willing to leave, submitting an official transfer request after suffering a back injury that stopped him playing for the Reds but not Brazil national team, his failure to push an exit has left the midfield maestro in an unexpected limbo.
Coutinho should be available for Red’s next match at Manchester City next Saturday if fully fit, but without the Barcelona target, Jurgen Klopp’s team have performed well, and he is unlikely to walk straight into the side, particularly immediately after travelling back from far South America.
