Arsenal legend Paul Merson has sent some warnings to Chelsea’s boss Antonio Conte about defender David Luiz.
Due to some of his recent performances at Chelsea, Merson feels it appears the Brazilian defender is slipping back into some bad habits.
The former PSG man has been very much consistent in his second spell with the west Londoners, but Merson made it known that he is noticing some recent laziness from the samba star.
During his first stint at Stamford Bridge, Luiz, despite his impressive performances, is known for his constant errors and mistakes. He has, however, become an important member of Conte’s squad since he returned to Chelsea from PSG last summer.
However, he hasn’t been at his best lately and even gave away a needless penalty that almost cost Chelsea some points in their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.
And the former Arsenal man Paul, writing in his column in the Daily Star, is concerned that the defender could become a liability once again.
The Gunners legend compared the Brazil international with goalkeeper David James, who was a fantastic shot-stopper but, at some point in time, begin losing concentration and was nickname ‘Calamity James’.
“It is the same with Luiz.” Merson wrote.
Recently, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is singing the praises of youngster Andreas Christensen. Perhaps, the Dane will make Luiz sit on the bench during important games very soon.
