West Ham record signing Andre Ayew set to be out for four months
West Ham's Andre Ayew could be out until Christmas as a result of the thigh injury sustained in Monday's Premier League match at Chelsea. The club's record signing lasted just 35 minutes of his debut at Stamford Bridge before limping off. The Hammers have not given a time frame for Ayew's absence, saying last night that he is facing "a significant rehabilitation period". However, Jack Sullivan, the son of West Ham's joint chairman David Sullivan, earlier wrote on Twitter: "We are devastated that Ayew will be out for about 4 months. He needs surgery." The news will be a major blow for manager Slaven Bilic, who had spent all summer attempting to bolster his attack before finally landing Ayew last week. He is already without another new signing, … [Read more...]

Paul Pogba to play against Southampton – Mourinho
Man United manager Jose Mourinho says Paul Pogba is ready to feature against Southampton on Friday night, though he warned the £89m midfielder may not yet be able to live up to his star billing. The 23-year-old, who became the world's most expensive footballer when he sealed his return to Old Trafford, missed the start of the season through suspension and has only been training with his new club for 11 days after an extended break at the end of his Euro 2016 excursion. However, Mourinho is confident he is in a condition to face the Saints, even if he is unlikely to last the 90 minutes. "We played with some players against Leicester with less training than Paul," he said. "We had guys coming back from the Euros, who were on holidays, had one week of … [Read more...]
Klopp defends Moreno after defender is mocked
Jurgen Klopp was bemused when asked about Alberto Moreno's erratic performance in Liverpool's win over Arsenal. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has defended Alberto Moreno in the wake of recent criticism and feels the reaction to the Spaniard's performance in the 4-3 win over Arsenal has been exaggerated. Moreno conceded a penalty - which was subsequently missed - after bringing down Theo Walcott, before he was caught out of position for the England international's goal a minute later. The 24-year-old was heavily criticised for his performance, with some even suggesting Liverpool have little chance of qualifying for the Champions League with Moreno on the pitch, but Klopp refuses to point the finger at the former Sevilla man. "If someone doesn't perform … [Read more...]
Arsenal are ready to spend in this transfer window- Arsene Wenger
Arsene Wenger insists he is ready to splash the cash in order to land new signings this summer. Arsenal have already been turned down by Jamie Vardy while they had a bid for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette rejected by the French club. They have also struggled to bring in a new central defender with Shkodran Mustafi's mooted move from Valencia still not complete. This has led to suggestions that Wenger's club is not willing to spend money in the same way some of the other Premier League title challengers are. But the Frenchman has reassured Arsenal fans that money will be spent when necessary. When asked specifically about the Mustafi move, Wenger said: "I believe it's better I don't speak about any individual player but we are working very … [Read more...]
Pogba declares himself ready for United’s game against Southampton
Manchester United's Paul Pogba has indicated he will be fit for selection against Southampton on Friday as he looks to be involved for the first time since his world-record transfer. Pogba, 23, has had to wait to get his season started, missing the 3-1 win at Bournemouth last Sunday because of a suspension carried over from the previous campaign when he was still with Juventus. A busy summer with France, who reached the Euro 2016 final, was followed by an extended vacation in the United States and his move back to Manchester, four years after leaving United as a 19-year-old. It meant he joined up with Jose Mourinho's squad later than others, yet the 23-year-old has said he is ready to go if called upon against the Saints. "You have to ask the manager … [Read more...]
