Manchester United manager Gunnar Solskjaer started his United coaching career on winning note as he led his team to a 5-1 thrashing of Cardiff City on Saturday.
The former United player made his tactics clear to his players and they perfectly executed the game plan.
One player whose performance caught the eyes of everyone was young striker Anthony Martial. The Frenchman scored two goals to bring his total goal tally in the League to eighth out of 10 games.
The 23-year-old versatile player endured a very frustrating period towards the end of last season and the start of this campaign as he was out of Mourinho’s plan.
Some reporters claimed there was an unrevealed misunderstanding between the player and the Portuguese manager which made the former Chelsea manager drop him to the bench.
His inactive role at Old Trafford cost him a place in Didier Deschamps’ world cup squad as he was only placed on standby by the France national team handlers.
Irrespective of Lukaku and Sanchez’s woeful form, the former United manager preferred ignoring the Frenchman in favour of the two superstars.
Lukaku and Sanchez continued to perform below expectations, leaving the 55-year-old boss with no option but to swallow his pride and give Martial the game-time he truly deserves.
Too late for Mourinho, things have gone from bad to worse before he could finally patch things up with his one-time trusted striker.
Martial finally replaced Sanchez in the starting lineup and he didn’t waste time to exert his presence in Champions League game against Young Boys where he helped the team to a 3-0 victory.
His wonderful display against the ‘Young Boys’ opened Mourinho’s eyes to what he’s been missing. The Portuguese further featured Martial in all games from October up to his dismissal.
With Alexis Sanchez’s form, the Chilean who is out injured can’t be the team’s top striker as they will struggle for goals.
Just as Martial, 21-year-old Marcus Rashford looks reborn and rejuvenated but he hasn’t done enough to shoulder United’s goalscoring burden.
The less talked about Lukaku, the better. The former Everton man is far from his usual form and can’t be the top striker at Old Trafford.
Lingard is being wonderful all through this season and he possesses the qualities of a top striker but not as clinical as the Frenchman.
Anthony Martial has been a very impressive goal-per-minute ratio, he has scored at least a goal in every 111 minutes and that makes him one of the deadly strikers in the League
