There are no doubt that Nigerians are already disappointed after seeing star midfielder Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld cap-tie to the Netherlands national team having featured in the 3-0 win against Germany in the UEFA Nations League.
Danjuma Groeneveld was introduced in the 68th minute after being subbed in to replace Steven Bergwijn which makes him ineligible to represent Nigeria anymore.
Although his identity was not hidden as he had Danjuma written on the back of his 22 Jersey but he will now be regarded as a Dutch.
Danjuma was born in Lagos to a Dutch father and a Nigerian mother but never had the opportunity of playing for the Nigerian team having represented Netherlands at the U21 level, scoring 2 goals.
Efforts by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF to have Danjiuma follow the footstep of Troost-Ekong Williams and Tyonne Ebuehi failed.
It would be recalled that Ekong represented the Netherlands at the U19 and U20 level but he is currently with the Nigerian team that defeated Libya by 4-0 in the Saturday’s AFCON 2019 qualifiers.
Ebuehi is also part of the team that represented the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Danjuma will only hope his progress with the national team is as successful as Ebuehi and Ekong.
