Napoli President and Maurizio Sarri banter continue ahead of Chelsea visit to Newcastle
It appears Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis still hasn’t come to terms with the departure of his former employee Maurizio Sarri who took over from Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge just last month.
De Laurentiis described the 53-year-old Sarri as a one-dimensional coach who despite turning Napoli into one of the most entertaining, free-scoring and exciting sides in Europe failed to capture any silverware in spite of pushing Juventus to the very end on the road to winning their seventh consecutive Serie A title last season.

The Napoli boss told L’Euipe,
‘There remains the pleasure of having played well but also the bitterness of not having won anything.’
‘We gave Sarri everything and in three years we didn’t win anything.’
Last month, the Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis accused Maurizio Sarri of trying to take his ‘whole team’ to new club Chelsea after the London club signed midfielder Jorginho. He claimed Jorginho was signed off because incoming Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti was expecting a lot from Amadou Diawara and that he wanted to play Marek Hamsik in a deeper role.
Sarri has however responded to the Napoli president’s remarks saying that De Laurentiis misses him. He is quoted as saying, ‘De Laurentiis talks about me because he misses me. For now, i don’t miss him. It’s true we didn’t win anything at Napoli, but we set the club’s points record at 91 and we qualified for the Champions League twice.’
‘I think Naples and Napoli must be proud of these results. We faced a Juventus side who, in the last few years, have won everything in Italy.’
The Blues coach will now switch his attention to his side’s crunch tie at St James’ Park home to Newcastle United who coincidentally is coached by the man Sarri succeeded at Napoli. Chelsea will be aiming to win its third match under new coach Sarri and keep up the pressure on league favourites Manchester City and Liverpool who will face Wolves and Brighton respectively.
