Former Arsenal and World Cup winning striker Thierry Henry has endured the worst start to his managerial career. He was hired by struggling Ligue 1 side Monaco in October to save them from the relegation zone but he hasn’t looked like the best man for the job.
The Frenchman has overseen 12 games with Monaco in all competitions and he recorded just two victories, leaving the team helplessly in the 19th position.
Things aren’t working out as planned for the former Les Blues striker but he’s hoping to get some quality players in the winter transfer market so as to turn things around as soon as he can.
CHELSEA AND ARSENAL TO SUFFER FROM HENRY’S TRANSFER PLANS
According to news emanating from the Stade Louis II stadium, the Monaco manager has made a comprehensive list of some players he wants to see on his squad by January.
The manager is more than ready to add experienced players to his defensive unit and he’s reportedly looking at Arsenal and Chelsea defenders.
Laurent Koscielny, who recently returned from injury, and Gary Cahill are being tracked by the inexperienced manager.
Cahill, 33, has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and he’s said to be heading out of the West London club in search of regular action.
Koscielny, 32, was uninspiring in last Sunday’s defeat to Southampton, though, he was played out of position as Emery deployed him at the centre-back.
He’s a fringe part of Emery’s team, however, the current injury crises rocking the club has left the former Paris St-German boss with no other option but to integrate the 32-year-old into the first XI
CAN CAHILL AND KOSCIELNY SOLVE MONACO’S DEFENSIVE PROBLEMS
Both players are defensively good and are made of quality. They have seen it in the Premier League and their experience will be an added advantage to the Ligue 1 side.
They have played against top strikers in the world and have held their own on countless occasions. They will definitely be good additions to the team at the back.
Irrespective of their qualities, age is getting the better side of the two players.
Koscielny is fast becoming an injury-prone as a result of his age, while, Cahill is equally not getting any younger.
It remains unseen if they would be agile and strong enough to withstand Kylian Mbappe’s pace; Neymar’s dribbling ability, Payet’s magical display, Di Maria’s excellent crosses and Nabil Fekir’s creativity.
Attacking-wise, both players have nothing to contribute to the team as they hardly push forward to score goals.
Gary Cahill is a bit better than the Frenchman, he is sparingly seen in opponent’s 18-yard box for set pieces and corner kicks.
Nonetheless, that won’t be any problem as reports also claimed the former Belgium assistant manager is targeting Chelsea outcast Michy Batshuayi in January as part of his reinforcement plan.
