Premier League champions Manchester City have gone to the top of the table after they saw off city rivals Manchester United in their derby clash on Wednesday night.
The Citizens knew that a win would take them to the Premier League summit and that was what they recorded against Manchester United.
Manchester City didn’t have the best of starts but the holders improved as the game went on against a Manchester United side smarting from the 4-0 drubbing received from the hands of Everton at the weekend.
The Manchester Derby ended in a goalless draw at the halftime interval before Manchester City took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half.
Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho suffered a first-half injury and he was replaced at the halftime interval by Leroy Sane.
The change seemed to galvanize Manchester City who took the lead through Bernardo Silva off an assist from Ilkay Gundogan.
The opening goal of the game came with nine second-half minutes on the clock before substitute Sane drilled a second goal home twelve minutes later off an assist from Raheem Sterling.
The second goal wrapped up a 2-0 win for Manchester City who secured Premier League summit as a result.
Manchester City have 89 points with three games to go ahead of Liverpool (88 points) while Manchester United stay in sixth place (64 points).
