Sadio Mane will be playing an extra World Cup qualifying match for his country come November. This is coming after the world football governing body FIFA made the decision that a previous game between South Africa and Senegal must be replayed after the officiating referee in the original game between the two countries was found guilty of match fixing.
The original match was played last year November and it was investigated after referee Joseph Lamptey made a wrong decision to award South Africa a penalty for handball when it is very much clear that the ball only hit the said Senegalese defender on his knee.
The Senegalese football federation took their grievances to CAF and laid a complaint against Lamptey. The Ghanaian referee was found guilty of fixing the game and was banned for life. Additionally, the match will need to be replayed between the two sides.
Now, the window in November was already set aside for just international friendly games. Mane with some other top Senegalese players may not have had to play a full game since it’s just friendly. However, since the South Africa game will be played at that period, Sadio is sure to make the trip to South Africa to play a full 90 minutes for his national side.
