Liverpool star player Sadio Mane has sent a message to his side’s fans, declaring he won’t change the way he plays on the field after his brutal clash with Man City’s goalie Ederson. The Senegalese also promised to get to the ball first next time when he finds himself in a similar situation.
During the 5-0 trashing of his side at the Etihad Stadium last weekend, Mane was sent off the pitch for a studs-up clash on City’s shot-stopper, which brought the Brazilian down in pains. Ederson was stretchered off and required several stitches on his cheek.
Nevertheless, former Manchester United star player Gary Neville – like many other observers – was of the opinion that the red card shown to Mane was an unnecessary one and that the decision of the referee to banish Mane from the pitch during the encounter is plainly too harsh. However, the FA rejected Liverpool’s appeal, and Mane has embraced his fate.
It, however, appears the incident has not deterred the African star after he admits he simply made an honest challenge for the ball and will not slack in doing so again.
Speaking to reporters after his side’s Champions League draw with Sevilla on Tuesday night, Sadio said:
‘My intention was not to hurt Ederson….and I wish him the recovery to come back healthy.
‘The next time I will get the ball before him’
He won’t feature for Liverpool in their premier league games against Burnley and Leicester City, as well as a League Cup tie against the foxes.
