Kepa Recall Was The Right Decision

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri believes that the decision to recall Kepa Arrizabalaga to the Blues starting XI was the right one.

Italian tactician Sarri talked about the decision to recall Kepa in his post-match press conference on Sunday evening after he masterminded the Blues’ 2-1 win over Fulham in their West London Derby clash at the Craven Cottage.

Spanish international shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga was dropped from the Chelsea starting XI last week after his public meltdown in the Carabao Cup final clash with Premier League champions Manchester City.

Kepa refused to be substituted during the game at the Wembley Stadium with substitute goalkeeper Willy Caballero on the touchline waiting to come on.

The Spaniard had been limping before Sarri made the decision to substitute him towards the end of extra time.

Kepa eventually stayed on for the rest of the Carabao Cup final game including penalty shootout which Chelsea lost 4-3 to eventual champions and holders Manchester City.

The former Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper was fined a week’s salary before being dropped for the Premier League game with London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

Willy Caballero was in goal as Chelsea defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 courtesy goals from Pedro Rodriguez and an own goal from Kieran Trippier.
