JurgenKlopp Targets Southampton Dou

Liverpool may be two points off the top of the table but there are thirteen teams with a better defensive record than theirs and Klopp might be looking to Virjil van Dirk to solve the problems of his leaky back line.

The 6ft 4in Dutch central defender joined The Saints back in 2015 on a five-year contract deal and has already signed a new six-year deal back in May 2016.

Such has been the consistency and development of the former Celtic player. This weekend also saw Virgil van Dam produce a fine performance as Southampton held Liverpool to a goalless draw at St Mary stadium on Saturday with fans taking to twitter to sing his praise with a certain fan describing him as “the wall.”

At 25 and with the player being in such a good place in his career and with a newly signed contract, it will be rather interesting to see how Klopp will price him away from The Saints.

But will we really be surprise having seen a growing number of players move over to the Merseyside from Southampton.

A list which includes the likes of, Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne etc. Even the most recent signing of Sadio Mane who has forged a kind of understanding with Coutinho with opponent defenders beginning to grow weary of the two.

Sam McQueen is another player Klopp is looking to sign from Southampton in order to bolster his defensive options and shut up any leakages the Reds may have at the back at the moment.

The 21-year old left back and winger is currently on loan to Southend United and is a product of the highly rated Southampton academy.
