Jurgen Klopp not ruling out Reds title challenge

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool have started well and are in the title race this season, and admits he just wants the team to play good football, while he drew comparisons between the Reds and former club Dortmund.

Klopp appeared as a special guest alongside Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

Klopp claimed that although the Anfield atmosphere is outstanding, it is not quite Dortmund.

“It’s different, there’s nothing compared to the Yellow Wall though,” claimed Klopp on Sky Sports News HQ. “Because there are 27 thousand people who are standing there, which is quite impressive.

“The Kop created the best half an hour I had in football [against Borussia Dortmund last season]. This half an hour was the best I ever had.

“It was outstanding. I don’t want to compare. I am a really lucky guy that I have been at two wonderful clubs before and now work here.”

Asked about the current Premier League table, Klopp revealed he was pleased with the standing of his side.

“It’s not the worst league table we’ve had since I have been here, maybe the best!

“But the big problem is only six games played, quite early stages, I am happy about this but there is a long way to go.

“This season the biggest difference is maybe nobody was really happy last season apart from Leicester with their positions. Everyone is striking back, lot of change in terms of managers and players. A lot of quality.

“For sure it’s the most competitive league in world football. People always ask which is the best league? I have no idea but there are 7, 8, 9 teams who think they should be top of the league. We all have to deal with it. We have to deal with that pressure.”

The Reds boss was asked about the defeat at Burnley, and admitted that the team has learned from their mistakes.

“We made quite a good game (against Burnley). We had 80% of the ball.

“Afterwards I wrote to a friend and said: we had 82% possession and lost. I don’t know another sport where this would be possible.

“Burnley deserved to win because they scored goals and we didn’t. We should have done better in the final third. We took it as an experience and learned from it.”

Liverpool face Swansea on Saturday and play host to Mourinho’s Manchester United immediately after the international break on October 17
