Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has admitted that poor communication led to Henrikh Mhitaryan’s slow start to life in the Premier League.
The Armenian arrived at the Old Trafford last summer from Borussia Dortmund for a reported fee of £30 million but failed to hit the ground running and was subsequently frozen of the first eleven after his lack-lustre displays against Manchester City in their first game of the last campaign.
However, Mhki slowly gathered pace into the game at Old Trafford, to become one of the starters in Mourinho’s side last season as they did a double, but the United boss believes he could have done more to get the best out of the attacker.
Ahead of their game against Leicester City this weekend, Mourinho has heaped praise on the former Borussia Dortmund, stressing the good relationship between the pair while he also mentioned how it took time for them to get on with each other on working terms.
Despite the accolades on the Armenian, the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to United could increase competition for places at United this season and Mhkitaryan will have to at the top of his game again to topple the likes of Juan Mata and Anthony Martial for attacking positions.
