Former Reds star player Jose Enrique has made it known via social media that he was approached on two different occasions by Arsenal during his time in the premier league.
Enrique recently announced his retirement from professional football following constant problems with a knee injury, and he said he had been a target for Arsene Wenger’s side during his time with both Newcastle and Liverpool.
The left-back first moved to England when he joined Newcastle from La Liga side Villarreal in 2007. His impressive performances at the club saw him earn a £7million move to Anfield in 2011.
And while replying a fan who asked him about offers from the gunners on twitter, the Spaniard confirmed that he was approached twice by the North Londoners.
Jose didn’t confirm the precise time he was approached by the Emirates club, but it might be when Arsenal sold Gael Clichy to Manchester City and ended up signing Andre Santos as his replacement (which was the same period Jose moved to Anfield).
The Spanish defender ended up spending five seasons with the Merseyside club, but barely featured for them towards the end of his spell there. All thanks to injuries, he was able to play just 12 English top flight matches in his final three seasons at Anfield.
He moved to Real Zaragoza in the Spanish second division where he stayed for a year before hanging his boots earlier this month.
