Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he now see Jack Wilshere to be an attacking midfielder rather than a central midfielder in the Gunners 3-4-2-1 formation.
Jack Wilshere has always been featured in a central midfield role for much of his playing career with many believing his better off as a deep-lying playmaker in the midfield.
However, since his injury return, Jack Wilshere has been impressing in an attacking midfield role off the striker during his display in the UEFA Europa League and Carabao Cup.
Arsene Wenger has confirmed via ESPN, the 25-year-old fan favourite is a player that is capable of influencing the match higher up the field.
The manager does concede the midfielder can still be played as a central midfielder if the Gunners play 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation, but in the 3-4-2-1 setup, he feels Jack Wilshere is better suited as an attacking midfielder.
It means Jack Wilshere is basically competing with Germany international midfielder Mesut Ozil and Chilean Alexis Sanchez for a starting spot in the first team so it’s hard to see how he’s going to seal regular playing time in the English Premier League.
He has certainly been impressing in the attacking role but most fans think his future should be in the central midfield. Arsene Wenger’s starting pair right now are Wales international Aaron Ramsey and midfielder Granit Xhaka and the pairing doesn’t seem to work for some fans so there should be a big chance for Jack Wilshere to break into the team.
