Jurgen Klopp gives an injury update on England defender Nathaniel Clyne. The Liverpool manager is optimistic that Clyne will be available when his side meet Swansea City at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
Clyne was forced to sit out Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Klopp started Trent Alexander Arnold at right-back in the absence of Clyne and the 18-year old did well against Anthony Martial.
The England International has been ever-present at full-back in the Premier League this term and has provided in 20 top-flight two assists.
However, speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of the Red’s trip to Plymouth Argyle in their third-round replay on Wednesday night, the boss provided an update on Clyne’s fitness status.
He attested that things are getting better, and with Nathaniel, it was just a muscle between the ribs. “Everybody who has [ever] bruised their ribs knows OK, sometimes you think it’s better broken,” he said.
“It is really painful, but now we know after a scan [that] there is nothing else and each day helps him to settle and get back on the pitch, if you want. So we give him for sure, we have to, two or three more days and then hopefully he can start running and all [that] stuff.”
Liverpool are currently sitting third on the EPL table and are seven points behind leaders Chelsea. They will host Swansea in their next league fixture on Saturday afternoon as they look to get back to winning ways.
