Iker Casillas has put an end to speculations making surrounding his future after consenting to extend his contract at FC Porto for one more season. Liverpool had been linked with his services, but the former Real Madrid goaltender will be staying put at Porto.
Casillas moved to Porto in the summer of 2015 at the end of a 25-year spell at the Spanish Capital. The goalkeeper helped Los Blancos to win three Champions Leagues and five Liga titles but chose to leave when Real wanted to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea to replace him.
The 36-year-old has since set up himself as a hero at the Portuguese side, conceding only 23 goals in 43 matches last season.
Notwithstanding, Casillas’ future at Porto went under scrutiny as his agreement with the club expired on 30 June.
In May AS revealed that the keeper had chosen to leave and was enticed to make a move to Liverpool.
Despite many offers, Liverpool seemed, by all accounts, to be his likely destination in the midst of rumors that he had even agreed to a pre-contract with Liverpool.
In any case, Casillas has now ended the speculation by declaring that he has signed a one-year contract extension to remain at Porto.
