Coach Jurgen Klopp gave Brazil international and midfielder, Fabinho, his first chance for Liverpool in the Uefa Champions League match against Serbian club, Red Star Belgrade.
Fabinho partnered Gini Wijnaldum at the midfield while Xherdan Shaqiri played the role of an attacking midfielder.
Prior to the game, Coach Jurgen Klopp had always been reluctant to start Fabinho as he only gave him cameos in past matches.
However, the Brazil star turned out to be spectacular for the Reds during the match as only Joe Gomez and Gini Wijnaldum touched the ball more times than him.
Former Arsenal star, Martin Keown hinted that Liverpool now have an authoritative midfielder in the person of Fabinho.
According to Keown in a statement quoted by the Daily Mail, Fabinho performed well against Red Star Belgrade, he said the Brazil star ”showed his authority in the Liverpool midfield.”
The former Arsenal star hinted that the duo of Fabinho and Shaqiri are ‘creating real competition for the three midfield places at Anfield.’
He added that coach Jurgen Klopp can now boast of having a number of midfielders that are effective.
Fabinho joined Liverpool in the summer transfer window from French club, AS Monaco at the transfer fee of £40 million.
