Former Everton and Manchester United defender Phil Neville has stated that the signing of England’s first choice goalkeeper Joe Hart could have greatly improved Liverpool’s chances of winning the English Premier League (EPL) this season.
The spotlight has been on the Anfield giants’ goalkeeping situation after the below par performances of Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius, who is a £4.7m pounds summer signing from German Bundesliga side Mainz 05, against teams like Bournemouth and West Ham.
On the goalkeeping situation at Liverpool, Neville, who is a football pundit said: “I look back at the start of the season when Joe Hart went to Torino and I thought, ‘If Liverpool sign Joe Hart then they probably have a fantastic chance of winning the Premier League’. To win the Premier League you need a good goalkeeper, you need two good centre backs.
“Unfortunately I don’t think Liverpool have either. I don’t want to criticise goalkeepers for making mistakes because everybody makes mistakes, but in terms of the quality I’ve seen already, I’m not so sure that the performances back up what I’m seeing on the pitch.”
The uncertainty in the Reds’ defence especially in between the sticks has led to a disappointing run of just one point from the last two games leading to being a further six points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
